Welcome to Blackboard, Wichita State University's Learning Management System (LMS). An LMS is an online learning environment that supports face-to-face, hybrid, flipped, and online instruction. Unlike an unprotected website environment, an LMS like Blackboard provides a FERPA compliant space for student learning.

Most remote learning at Wichita State takes place online using the Blackboard platform with support from Zoom. You will learn more about Zoom in Step 3. For this step, we will focus on getting you comfortable with the Blackboard profile.

Blackboard is the Learning Management System (LMS) we use at Wichita State. All courses have a Blackboard "classroom" associated with them. Your instructor for each class will decide how much to use this space, but in general, in-person classes use Blackboard slightly less, and online classrooms use Blackboard considerably more.

This guide includes information that will be helpful for new and intermediate Blackboard instructor users. "Instructors" includes instructors, GTA's, and course builders. In addition to this printed guide, all instructors can receive video training on demand through myTraining in WSU's staff portal.
